May 2006 - History Week; Guided Walks in the Cemetery
28/05/2006
A surprising 48 people arrived at the Cemetery gates on Friday 26 May 2006 for our advertised Guided Walks. Janette and Sally-Ann, the tour guides, split the group in two, setting off in opposite directions and meeting and crossing over at the halfway point of the walk, at the grave of Michael Maybrick, and ending where they started at the Cemetery gates an hour and a half later. The weather was kind, and everyone seemed to enjoy the opportunity to hear the stories associated with the twenty graves selected.
Earlier in the week on Tuesday 23 May, the five people who showed up also enjoyed the tour of the Cemetery but the weather was not so king that evening, the wind was blowing hard and it was very cold. The planned tour on Wednesday 24 May was a complete wash out, and we had to cancel owing to the driving rain. A few hardy souls did arrive, only to be told that the walk was off. Well we did say "weather permitting"!
