Any other information: The Annual Register, Or, A View of the History and Politics of the Year 1851 States under Deaths: AUG... 27. At Ryde, Isle of Wight, in his 70th year, the Hon. Edward Richard Stewart, formerly Deputy Chairman of the Board of Customs; uncle to the Earl of Galloway. He was the seventh son of John, seventh Earl of Galloway, K.T., and served some years in the army. In 1806 he was returned to Parliament for the Wigton district of burghs; was re-elected in 1807; and resigned his seat in Feb., 1809, on being appointed one of the commissioners for victualling the navy. He subsequently became Deputy Chairman of the Board of Customs, which office he resigned in 1846.
